Los Angeles FC Looking Superb Offensively
Because LAFC is the reigning champion of the MLS, this team got to start its Leagues Cup campaign in the knockout phase. In the first game, Steve Cherundolo’s men destroyed Juarez 7-1. Some people thought it was a glitch, but LAFC quickly showed it was no accident – in the second round of the knockouts, they destroyed Real Salt Lake 4-0.
Los Angeles FC’s forward Dennis Bouanga has been fantastic, scoring five goals already. His colleague from the attacking department, Nathan Ordaz, scored two goals so far, the same as team captain Carlos Vela. Plus, midfielder Filip Krastev and defender Ryan Hollingshead scored a goal each.
LAFC have been really impressive so far, but the fact is that neither of their previous two opponents is anywhere near as good as their next opponent, Monterrey.
Monterrey Seems Like the Leagues Cup Dark Horse
LAFC is the second-most expensive team in the MLS. Actually, it was in the top spot until Inter Miami signed Lionel Messi. When it comes to Monterrey, this team is second on the list of the most valuable Liga MX teams, just below Club America.
Monterrey’s really been showing that it’s a real Liga MX heavyweight. This is the only team in the 2023 Leagues Cup that’s won four games in regulation. These guys defeated Real Salt Lake 3-0, the Seattle Sounders 4-2, the Portland Timbers 1-0, and UANL Tigres 1-0. The game with Tigres – the Mexican champions – was in the first round of the Leagues Cup knockouts.
It was a very close game, with Monterrey’s new playmaker Sergio Canales scoring the winner in the seventh minute of the stoppage time.
LAFC vs. Monterrey Prediction
This is going to be a very close game as these two are very similar in terms of quality. LAFC’s forwards have been phenomenal, which is why we’re 100% certain they’re going to score some goals on Friday. But we also think Monterrey will find the net a couple of times. This is why a draw in regulation seems like the most likely outcome.
